Hotels and other lodging are especially vulnerable to bedbug infestations because of the constant flux of guests coming and going, and the ease with which bed bugs hitchhike on luggage and clothing.
Traveling Tips

Inspect the room

* Mattress - Inspect along the top and bottom seams, and along each side of the 
   piping material sewn onto these edges.

* Under mattress handles and along or inside air holes.

* Between mattress and box spring, platform or frame.

* Inside folds of material and under bottoms.

* Box spring - Points where the box spring sits on the bed frame.

* The top surface of the box spring, inside folds of material

* Along seams and where material is tacked to the frame

* Area where mattress and box spring are in contact with the wall.

* Other areas - Along edge of the headboard.

* Along edges of wall hangings closest to the bed.

* Along molding or the joint between the floor and the wall closest to the bed.

* Along electrical outlet and switch plates, and phone jacks closest to the bed.

* Under loose wallpaper and areas of peeling paint.

Recommendations

* Do not unpack into drawers
* Place luggage in bed bug luggage encasements. [Encasements can  
   be purchased from Garrie Pest Control]. Or keep luggage closed and
   zippered.
* Keep luggage on luggage rack pulled away from the wall.
* Store dirty clothes in sealed plastic bags away from the walls.


Upon returning home

* Unpack on a light colored, bare wood or vinyl floor keeping an eye out
   for bed bugs.
* Take all dirty clothes from the plastic bags and place them directly into
    a dryer for 60 minutes on hot cycle
.
* Place plastic bags used to isolate items in another plastic bag, sealed
   and discard in an exterior trash receptacle.
* All remaining items should be removed from the luggage and inspected.
* Vacuum the luggage thoroughly.
* Store luggage ub a sealed plastic bag until ready for the next trip.
